The King Ranch family was instrumental in founding the institution today known as Texas A&M Kingsville as a “normal school” , or college for teachers in 1917.
Texas A&M Kingsville is the oldest continuously operating public institution of higher learning in South Texas. Originally called South Texas State Teachers College, Texas A&M Kingsville was known as Texas A&I before its inclusion into the Texas A&M system.
